Welcome to the City of Sunderland Amateur Swimming Club website.
We are based at the Sunderland Aquatic centre. Our mission is to be the Swimming Club of
choice for all communities in the Sunderland and surrounding area.
The Club aim to provide opportunities for Long Term Athlete Development
and encourages members to obtain qualifications in teaching and coaching,
attend other sport related courses, and for non-swimming members to
qualify as ASA Officials.
The Club is primarily a competitive club and members of all ages are
encouraged to participate in swimming or swimming related competitive
activities such as water polo, diving, triathlon and synchronized swimming.
The Club also recognise that swimming regularly is part of a healthy
lifestyle and we will provide opportunities for non-competitive, but coached
swimming sessions to be available.

The swimmers are definitely improving their racing skills and commitment which really augurs well for the future. It is great to see so many of our team stepping up and having a really big go.”

British International Disability Swimming Championships
City of Sunderland ASC swimmer Matthew Wylie once again shone brightly while representing Great Britain at the British International Disability Swimming Championships held at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge, where strong opposition was provided by squads from Japan, Brazil, Netherlands, Germany and the Ukraine.
Matthew competed in all seven paralympic events: 100m Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Backstroke,50m and 400m Freestyle, and 200m Individual Medley, where he produced strong performances to reach all of the youth finals - recording personal best times in all but the 200m Individual Medley event. A total of 138 swimmers took part in the blue riband 100m Freestyle event, where Matthew was the sole British representative in his heat. The event was eventually won by World Record holder Andres Esteves of Brazil in 52.19.
Matthew saved his best performance until last, taking his first international medal - the bronze in the 400m Freestyle - a result that took him to eighth place in the World Rankings for the 'S9' classification.
Overall, the swimmers shattered a series of records underlining the strength of the field, with an astounding 15 British, 8 European, 2 pan-American, 1 Asian and 6 World Records being broken during the competition.
Matthew said: "I am really pleased with my performances at the weekend. It's a little bit daunting lining-up on the blocks with Olympic Champions like Jonathan Fox & Sasha Kindred - but I just tried to stay focussed. The 400 Freestyle Bronze is my first international medal.'

NEW TIMETABLE
The current timetable was set up in April 2010. As we continue to grow our membership base, the timetable has thrown up a few challenges. These mainly occur late on Monday and Friday nights when swimmers have to vacate one pool and move to another. In order to solve this situation we have decided to move the Development A squad to a 4.15 pm start on Monday and Fridays. The other main changes are:
moving Junior Gold earlier on Monday and Friday nights
moving Junior Silver earlier on a Friday night
moving Dynamo and Masters earlier on a Monday night
All the coaching fees remain the same.
COACHING STAFF APPOINTMENTS
We are delighted to inform you all that CRAIG ROBERTSON has been promoted to coach the Junior Gold squad. Craig has done a fantastic job with our youngest swimmers and is really looking forward to working with the next level. Succeeding Craig is STEVE MARSHALL who takes over at an exciting time with lots of young and committed swimmers in Junior Silver. Steve is no stranger to the Club as he has been swimming in the Masters squad for a while. Steve has a lot of experience in swim coaching and teaching and has recently been working with Derwentside Swimming Club. Steve will be assisting the Junior Silver squad (led by the other coaches) until his Child Protection clearance comes through - hopefully within the next few weeks. Please could you all give Steve a big Sunderland welcome!
Please note that Craig and Steve will start their new squads on Tuesday 03 May to coincide with the new timetable.
Many thanks to BRIAN SHEPHERDSON who has worked really hard with our Junior Gold squad for the last 18 months. Brian has stepped down due to increased work demands with his job with Northern Rock. Thanks Brian and all the very best for the future.
On behalf of the Club Committee, I trust that the new changes meet with your approval.
Regards,
Alastair Johnson

Please find attached the new Club Promotion Criteria which explains and highlights what the swimmers need to do to stay in their present squad or move up to the next level. Obviously, we wish to raise the standards and challenge all swimmers to commit more, train harder and thus become more successful. Whilst the Promotion Criteria is being introduced now, the swimmers have until the end of August 2011 to make the criteria. The coaches will continue to track the swimmers against the criteria and new squad lists will be drawn up for the start of next season. Thus, all swimmers will have an equal opportunity to progress and demonstrate their skills and results. Please note that some swimmers will be affected by the new age range per squad. As per everyone else, these swimmers have 4 months to show the coaches their commitment and progress.
Please speak with your squad coach if you require any further clarification.
