Welcome to the City of Sunderland Amateur Swimming Club website. We are based at the Sunderland Aquatic centre. Our mission is to be the Swimming Club of choice for all communities in the Sunderland and surrounding area.
The Club aim to provide opportunities for Long Term Athlete Development and encourages members to obtain qualifications in teaching and coaching, attend other sport related courses, and for non-swimming members to qualify as ASA Officials.
The Club is primarily a competitive club and members of all ages are encouraged to participate in swimming or swimming related competitive activities such as water polo, diving, triathlon and synchronized swimming.
The Club also recognise that swimming regularly is part of a healthy lifestyle and we will provide opportunities for non-competitive, but coached swimming sessions to be available.

City of Sunderland ASC programme was represented in Swansea by two British Record holders Eleni Papdoplous (17) competing in the S10 class and Matthew Wyile (13) S9 class. Both swimmers had an outstanding meet which saw Eleni defend her National Championships titles from 2008 in the 200m Individual Medley and 100m Butterfly she followed this with silver in the 100m Breastroke and 100m Freestyle both in new lifetime bests for long course competition

Rising star Matthew coached by Val Wilson put together a series of impressive performances showing talent across all strokes and distances. Matthew claimed his first medals at a National level in the 200m Individual Medley and the 50m FS he narrowly missed a medal claiming 4th spot at in the 400m FS as well as two 5th places in the 100FS and 100m BK

On behalf of the coaching team at City of Sunderland ASC a huge well done to both swimmers on the amazing medal tally at a National level.

Gala Enties

The club calendar is regularly updated and all gala information is now displayed on the Club’s notice board (on the balcony above reception).
Swimmers should receive gala information and an entry form from their coach – this means your swimmer needs to be competing in this gala.

If for any reason your child will not be competing then please discuss this and any other entry queries with your child’s coach (please do not approach coaches during a training session).

Entries must be paid for (by cheque) on the night the gala is closing – this will usually be a Friday 4:30 – 6:00pm (for OH1 only – this will be the Thursday before 4:30 – 5:30pm).  The desk will be open (where the club shop is, to take entries and payments.

If you are needing to hand in entries outside of this timescale then please ensure you put the fully completed gala entry form and cheque (not cash) in an envelope and pass to your squad manager, who will in turn pass to the competition secretary.

Please check the website regularly for updates/accepted/rejected/warm up times.

Your help is appreciated.

MATTHEW WYLIE BREAKS THE BRITISH RECORD – AGAIN!

Congratulations to Matthew Wylie (Olympic Hopefuls 3 and coached by Val Wilson) who has once again broke the British 400 Medley record.

Matthew has been on a record breaking spree since October:

  • 200 Butterfly at the N&D autumn series
  • 800 Freestyle at the Chester-le-Street meet
  • 400 Medley at the N&D autumn series
  • 400 Medley at the Wear Valley meet

Matthew is really pleased with his records – ‘when I realised I had gotten my first British record I was over the moon. When I beat my own record in the 800 Freestyle it was amazing’.

Keep up the great work Matthew!

JOSH CROWTHER TO RACE AT WORLD SCHOOL GAMES

All the best to A Squad member Josh Crowther who is representing England at the World School Games. The Games is a multi sport competition (similar to the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics) which is held every 3 years. Josh is part of a 24 strong England swim team which is racing at Qatar.

Josh is competing in the 400 and 200 metre freestyle. Josh has enjoyed a great season so far in winning the 200 metres freestyle and the 50 backstroke at the recent NER Senior Championships. His 50 backstroke was a new Northumberland and Durham senior record.

The competition is the biggest international sport event for schools in the world.
