Derwentside ASC Developmental Meet – Gala Report

Thirteen year old Connor Steele topped COSASC’s medal table, winning four medals at the one day meet held at Stanley’s Louisa Centre.  The Age Group Development squad swimmer finished the day with a gold medal in the 50m breaststroke event and followed this with silver medals in the 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly and a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle event.

Adam Boxall, thirteen won two medals: a gold medal in the 200m freestyle and a silver medal in the 100m freestyle.  Adam Cambrook, fourteen also came home with two medals, finishing second in the 200m I/M and third in the 50m butterfly event.  Completing the medal tally for the boys was eleven year old Tom Brumwell who finished first in the 100m breaststroke event.  All the boys set personal best times to win their medals.

For the girls, ten year olds Grace Abbott and Caitlin Cambrook and eleven year old Vanessa Rubio won four bronze medals between them.  Grace was third in the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle events while Caitlin and Vanessa both finished third in their age groups in the 200m freestyle event. Again all won by achieving personal best times.

Making their debut in their first non-team gala were Jasmine Campbell, Leon Nicholson and Fran Proctor all aged nine and eleven year old Benjamin Milford.   Jasmine’s best result came in the 50m breaststroke where she finished a creditable 5th and finished in 9th and10th places in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle events respectively.  Leon was 11th in the 50m freestyle while Fran finished 9th in the 50m breaststroke and 12th in the 50m freestyle events. Benjamin finished 6th in the 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke events and 10th in the 50m freestyle.  A great start to their competitive careers!

Thirteen year olds Katie Bittel and Jennifer Hellens, twelve year old Laura-Jayne Smith, eleven year old Rhianna Ibbitson and nine year old Lorenzo Corsi completed the COSASC squad  – all achieving new personal best times.
