City of Sunderland ASC New Year Meet 2017

Excitement was in the air with the first long course gala of the season at Sunderland. Strongly contested with many swimmers swimming in new age groups.

The club welcomed other swim clubs from as far away as Northern Ireland, Scotland, Yorkshire and Cumbria as well as most of our local area clubs, great to see all these clubs coming together for the meet.

Sunderland won 22 medals overall, 7 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze.

The first event was the boys 400IM Sunderland’s Jay Manners swam well to come in tenth place.

Girls 200m freestyle

In the 12 year age group, our best placed girl was Ayumi Faulds who came in 5th place, Millie Foster was 7th with Tilly Abbott 11th and Elyssa Palmer also finished in the top 15.

In the 13 year age group, Layla Trueman swam well and was just outside the top 20.

14 year old Iliasa Redda also swam in at 21st place.

The 15 year age group Vanessa Rubio came in 12th place.

Boys 100m backstroke

In the 10/11 year age group, Luke McGee won his first gold in a time of 1:19.17 with Alexandru Lazar winning bronze in a time of 1:22.53, Alfie McGuire was 8th and Louis Bradley Godfrey 10th place.

In the 12 year group, Kenneth Juan just missed out on a podium finish coming in 4th place.

Girls 100m butterfly

Straight to the 12 year age group and Ayumi Faulds just missing a podium place coming in 4th.

The 14 year old girls had Caitlin Cambrook in 8th place and Iliasa Redda in 18th place.

Boys 50m butterfly

Luke McGee lead the way for Sunderland again in the 10/11 year group but just missing out on a medal coming in 4th closely followed by his team mate Alexandru Lazar in 5th place, Jacob Barnett was 12th with Anthony Collinson in 15th place.

Our 12 year old Kenneth Juan swam well to come in at 6th place.

Up to the over 16s and Joseph Robbins and Gareth Orr came in the top 40.

Girls 50m freestyle

10/11 year old Riona Sorianosis swam well for a 5th place finish, Helena Wyness was 8th with Eve Foster and Anna Whelan 14th and 15th respectively. Little Clara Birchall swam well to scrape into the top 40.

Our 12 year girls swam well with some good performances , Tilly Abbott lead our girls home coming in 9th place, Millie Foster was 12th with Elyssa Palmer 18th. Sophie Graham was 20th with Alice Cammock, Grace Brewerton and Heather Robinson all in the top 30

The 13 age girls were strongly contested with Layla Trueman coming in 28th place, Ryxelle Gepte was just outside the top 40.

In the 14 year group, Caitlin Cambrook was 5th with Grace Abbott in 18TH place.

15 year old Vannesa Rubio came in 9th with over 16 swimmer Ana Lazar in 23rd place.

Boys 200m breaststroke

Our 10/11 year boys continued to shine with Alfie McGuire winning silver in 3:26.88 with Louis Bradley Godfrey just missing out on a medal coming in 4th place.

Jumping up to the over 16s and Jay Manners came in 7th place with Callum Walker in 18th place

Boys 400m freestyle.

Luke McGee swam for gold finishing in a time of 5:22.55 in the 10/11 year group. Nice one Luke.

Boys 200m backstroke

Starting with the 10/11 year boys, Alexandru Lazar won silver in a great time of 2:58.40 with Alfie McGuire coming in 5th place.

In the 12 year group, Kenneth Juan was 8th

The over 16 lads had Zak Logue in 5th place with Jay Manners coming in 12th.

Girls 200m IM

The younger 10/11 girls our Helena Wyness showed great skills to come in 7th place.

The older 12 year olds Ayumi Faulds won bronze in a time of 2:45.00, well done Ayumi.

In the 13 year group, Layla Trueman just made the top 30.

Our 14 year olds Caitlin Cambrook and Iliasa Redda were 17th and 22nd place.

Boys 50m breaststroke

Podium finishes for Alfie McGuire who won silver in a time of 43.45 with Louis Bradley Godfrey winning bronze in 43.49 great race guys.

Anthony Collinson was 13th with Jacob Barnett 14th and young William Taylor in 16th place. Well done chaps.

Arran Robinson in the 12 year boys came in the top ten at 9th place.

Our only other swimmer was in the over 16 category where Callum Walker came in 18th place.

Girls 50m backstroke

10/11 year old Riona Sorianosis showed class and won gold in a great time of 38.63, Anna Whelan made the top 10 coming in 9th with Eve Foster in 17th place.

In the 12 year old girls,  Elyssa Palmer came in 11th place with Millie Foster 16th Yuki Faulds was 18th and Alice Cammock was 20th.  Tilly Abbott, Grace Brewerton and Heather Robinson all made the top 30.

The 13 year age group, Layla Trueman was 33rd.

Up to the 14s and Caitlin Cambrook came in 11th place

Boys 100m freestyle

Luke McGee swimming a great gala lead home the Sunderland boys coming in 6th place, Alexandru Lazar was 8th with Louis Bradley Godfrey in 10th place.

Kenneth Juan was 13th in the 12 year old boys

Up to the over 16s and Joseph Robbins was 47th with Gareth Orr 51st place.

Girls 100m backstroke

10/11 year group, Helena Wyness was 10th place with Eve Foster in 18th.

In the 12 year group, Sophie Graham finished 16th place.

Boys 200m freestyle

10/11 year old Luke McGee won gold in a blistering 2:33.73, Alfie McGuire was 7th with Alexandru Lazar in 10th place. Well done again Luke.

12 year old Fran Proctor swam well to finish 10th.

The over 16 gents had Zak Logue and Jay Manners just separated by .04 of a second coming in 12th and 13th place with Zak at 12.

Girls 100m backstroke

Riona Sorianosis won a great silver medal in the 10/11 group swimming in a time of 1:22.72.

Eve Foster was 17th and Helena Wyness 18th place.

In the 12 year age group, Ayumi Faulds won a good bronze in a time of 1:20.03, Elyssa Palmer was 10th.

The 14 year girls had Caitlin Cambrook in 15th with Iliasa Redda in 22nd place.

In the over 16s Freya Rayner was 4th.

Boys 100m butterfly

Gold number 4 for Luke McGee giving an outstanding performance at this gala, Luke won in a time of 1:25.27 for the 10/11 year group. Magnificent stuff Luke.

In the over 16s Joseph Robbins and Gareth Orr were 41st and 44th respectively.

Girls 50m butterfly

In the younger 10/11 group, Helena Wyness was our highest place swimmer coming in 11th place with Eve Foster in 17th. Little Clara Birchall showed courage to come in the top 30.

In the 12 year group, Millie Foster was 13th with Yuki Faulds 14th and Tilly Abbott 16th place.

Caitlin Cambrook in the 14 year group won a great silver medal in 30.72. Great stuff Caitlin. Grace Abbott came  in 25th place.

In the 15 year group, Vanessa Rubio came in 11th place.

The over 16s had Freya Rayner just miss a bronze coming in 4th place, Ana Lazar was 19th.

Boys 50m freestyle

The younger group 10/11 year boys, Alfie McGuire won bronze in a time of 33.24 Alexandru Lazar was 5th Anthony Collinson swam well for 19th with Oliver Dodsworth coming in 20th place. William Taylor swam well to finish in the top 30.

In the 12 year group, Kenneth Juan won a magnificent gold medal in a time of 31.00 great stuff Ken.

Fran Proctor was 12th with Arran Robinson 16th and Jack Allones in 17th place.

14 year old Josh Convery was 21st.

In the over 16s Josef Craig scored 652 points Gareth Orr scored 517 points in the multi-disability points.

Riona Sorianosis continued to shine coming in 4th place

Boys 1500m freestyle

Our only swimmer in this epic event was 18 year old Jay Manners who swam in at 9th place. Well done Jay.

Girls 400m freestyle

Our youngest ladies had a great silver medal win when Helena Wyness swam in 5:33.87 to claim the medal, brilliant Helena.

In the 12 year group, Ayumi Faulds swam a new PB to just miss a bronze coming in 4th place in 5:07.40, Elyssa Palmer swam well to finish 9th.

In the 14 year group, Caitlin Cambrook was 8th with Iliasa Redda 11th place.

Boys 200m IM

There was no stopping Luke McGee who finished 3rd to claim bronze in a time of 3:01.37, Alfie McGuire was a credible 5th place.

The 16 years and over gents saw Jay Manners swim in 15th place with Joseph Robbins just inside the top 30.

Girls 50m breasrstroke

10/11 year group, Eve Foster was our highest place swimmer at 19th, Clara Birchall an ever trier came in at 28th.

In the 12 year group, Alice Cammock was 14th with Millie Foster 16th, Jess Ord was 21st followed by Sophie Graham and Heather Robinson all in the top 25.

The 14 year old girls had Grace Abbott in 18th place, and in the 15s Vannesa Rubio was 12th place.

Boys 50m backstroke

Young Alexandru Lazar in 38.02 won the silver medal with a great swim, well done Alex.

Luke McGee was 6th with Anthony Collinson 13th Olly Dodsworth 16th, Jacob Barnett and Harry Trueman all swam well to come in the top 20. William Taylor came in 24th place, well done gents.

In the 12 year group, Arran Robinson and Fran Proctor were 8th and 9th respectively.

Girls 100m freestyle

In the younger 10/11 group, Riona Sorianosis and Helena Wyness swam well to finish in 7th and 10th place.

The 12 year group had Ayumi Faulds win silver in 1.08.20 in a great swim. Great stuff Ayumi.

Millie Foster was 7th and Elyssa Palmer 12th and Tilly Abbott 15th place.

The 14 year old girls had Caitlin Cambrook finish 5th place and Iliasa Redda in 14th place.  Up to the 15s and Vannesa Rubio was 15th. In the over 16 group, Freya Rayner was 5th.

Girls 200m backstroke

Riona Sorianosis in the younger girls, won a great bronze medal in a time of 3.01.90

Well done Riona.

Boys 100m breaststroke

In the 10/11 year group, Alfie McGuire won a great gold in a time of 1.37.40, brilliant Alfie.

Jumping up to the 16s and over, Jay Manners was 10th with Callum Walker 15TH and Joseph Robbins in 22nd place.

That concluded a tough fought level 1 gala, Thanks goes to all the swimmers and their families and all the  line judges and time keepers who gave up their time to run the gala.

It was a great experience for some of our new comers and they can take experience from this.

We move on to the first weekend in the N&D championships next weekend (4th/5th Feb) and Middlesbrough the weekend of 11th/12th  February for non N&D swimmers.
