Four swimmers from the City of Sunderland swimming club qualified for the national open water event which was held at Rother Valley Country Park. For Jennifer Tatters, 18, James Burns, 16, and Gabrielle Burdess, 14, this was their first experience at competing as an individual in a national event. They all put in good performances with Jennifer finishing 7th in the 3km 17/18 age group event, James finishing in 19th place in the 2km event in the 15/16 age group and Gabrielle finishing 15th in the 1.5km in the 14 year age group .
The club’s best result was achieved by sixteen year old Lucy Ellis who finished 6th in the 2km event in the 15/16 age group in a time of 24:26.20 minutes.
