British Gas Swimming Championships 2013 – Report

City of Sunderland ASC produced some outstanding performances at the biggest domestic meet in the calendar .

Nicole Lough, GB Team member for IPC World Championships 2013. Nicole broke 11year old British Record twice in one day and posted the second fastest time in the world this year. Nicole also swam lifetime best in the Women’s MC 200m IM.

Matt Wylie a member of British Swimming’s Podium Development Squad (16) made the finals all in new lifetime bests in the Men’s MC 50m, 100m and 400m Freestyle events.

Nicole and Matt are now heading to Bath University for a training camp with the GB Development Squad.  Nicole will then be flying to Montreal to compete in the IPC World Championships.

Adam Taylor – Current British Junior Champion 50m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke produced some outstanding swims against Olympians and a international senior field. Adam narrowly missed his first Senior National Final when he swam his way to a lifetime best in the Men’s 50m Butterfly finishing 11th in Great Brittan. He made Semi Finals in the Men’s 50m Backstroke finishing 14th.

Current 14yrs British Age Group Silver Medallist Lucy Walton swam her way to a top 20 finish as part of her preparations for the upcoming ASA National Youth Championships.

Jonathan Carlisle, currently training at Bath University, put in some excellent performances to finish 7th in the final of the 100m backstroke and 8th in the 200m backstroke final.  On his way to the 200m final, Jonathan recorded a new personal best timed of 1:59.61 minutes.

Again Sunderland continued to move forward and place our young, developing athletes in major domestic and International finals.
