Tynemouth Winter Meet

The Tynemouth winter meet took place on 18/19/20 of November.  Sunderland didn’t attend on the Friday evening events. This report therefore only covers the Saturday and Sunday races. Good to see a few young club swimmers taking part again and gaining race experience.

The Sunderland club won a total of 61 medals, of which 20 were gold,28 silver and 13 bronze.

I must apologise to not having access to personal best times for this report. Kicking off with the Saturday racing then first race for Sunderland was the boys 100m butterfly.

Josh Convery was our only entrant in the boys 12 years old and came in a credible 4th place in a time of 1.26.15.

In the girls 11 years, Sunderland’s Ayumi Faulds flew home for the gold medal in a time of 5.47.17

Boys 100m butterfly

Luke McGee won the gold medal in 1.24.29 with Alfie McGuire taking the bronze in 1.32.57 well done lads.

In the 10-year age group, Riona Sorianosis took 4th place in a time of 1:39.10

The 11-year group saw Ayumi Faulds win the clubs first gold of the day in 1:19.39 Layla Trueman won silver in 1:24.59 credible top ten finishes from Tilly Abbott, Yuki Faulds, Sophie Graham, Jess Ord, and Elyssa Palmer.

The 13/14 group saw Caitlin Cambrook win silver in a time of 1:11.96 again great top ten finishes from Ilaisa Redda, Molly Joice and Grace Abbott. Well done too all.

Boys 50m backstroke

9 years’ age group Oliver Dodsworth won a brilliant gold medal in a great time of 47.37, well done young Oliver.

The 10-year-old boys saw Alfie McGuire also win gold in a storming 39.57, over 4 seconds ahead of the silver medal winner, great swimming Alfie.

Kenneth Juan scored a Sunderland hat trick of golds in the 11 year boys in a time of 34.90, brilliant Ken.

Fran Proctor was 9th and in the 12 year boys Josh Convery was 6th place.

Girls 50m backstroke

Eve Foster in 44.96 won the silver medal in the 9 year age group. Riona Sorianosis equalled Eves effort with a silver in the 10-year group in a time of 37.91 in the11 year girls the Sunderland girls came in together in 6th to 12th place, Layla Trueman, Elyssa Palmer, Millie Foster, Yuki Faulds, Sophie Graham, Tilly Abbott, and Jess Ord.

Caitlin Cambrook and Ilaisa Redda won silver and bronze respectively in 33.93 and 35.08 in the 13/14 group. Grace Abbott came in at 14th place. Well done to all the ladies.

Boys 200m backstroke

9 years old Oliver Dodsworth won gold in a time of 3:20.81 great swimming from young Olly.

Luke McGee won bronze in the 10-year age group in a time of 2:50.72 while Kenneth Juan went one better with a silver in the 11 years’ group in a time of 2:55.21. Fran Proctor came in 7th place, well done boys.

Boys 400m freestyle

In the 10-year age group Luke McGee powered to gold in a time of 5:20.83 which was a monstrous 8 seconds ahead of the silver medal place, powerful stuff from Luke. Well done to all.

Girls 100m breaststroke

Riona Sorianosis won silver in the 10 year girls. The 11 year girls once again came in on mass with Millie Foster in 9th, Jess Ord 11th, Layla Trueman 13th, Tilly Abbott 14th, Elyssa Palmer 15th place. The 13/14 group Ilaisa Redda 7th, Grace Abbott 9th, Caitlin Cambrook 10th and Molly Joyce 17th. Well done to all.

Boys 100m breaststroke

Olly Dodsworth made gold number 3 his own in a time of 1:52.84 with Harry Trueman winning silver in 1:53.61. The next age group up saw Alfie McGuire win bronze in a time of 1.36.45. Fran Proctor was 8th place in a time of 1.48.04 well done guys.

Girls 50m freestyle

9 years group young Eve Foster won bronze and broke 40 seconds coming in at 39.52

11 year group was strongly contested with Ayumi Faulds winning silver in 32.32 Layla Trueman was 5th, Millie Foster 6th, Elyssa Palmer 8th, Sophie Graham, Yuki Faulds, and Tilly Abbott came in following each other in 12,13,14 place.

The 13/14 group saw Caitlin Cambrook win silver in a time of 29.26 Molly Joyce came in 18th place, well done all.

Boys 50 m freestyle

Oliver Dodsworth added to his medal haul with a silver in a time of 40.19 with Harry Trueman winning bronze in 40.44 seconds, the 11 year boys saw Kenneth Juan winning silver in a time of 31.90 and Fran Proctor coming in 16th place.

Girls 200m breaststroke

10-year-old Riona Sorianosis won the gold medal storming home in 3:26.54 a full 13 seconds in front of the silver winner. Wow! Riona brilliant.

In the 11 year age group Ayumi Faulds led the way for Sunderland in 5th with Sophie Graham 10th and Jess Ord 11th place well done girls.

Girls 100m backstroke

9-year group Eve Foster came in 5th place, in the 10s, Riona mustn’t be tired from the 200 as she won silver in a time of 1:23.29 young Anna Whelan came in 7th place.

The 11-year girl’s gold was won by Ayumi Faulds in 1:19.96, Layla Trueman was 6th with top ten finishes from Elyssa Palmer, Yuki Faulds, Millie Foster, just outside the ten were Sophie Graham, Tilly Abbott and Jess Ord.

13/14-year-old Cailtlin Cambrook was back winning the silver in 1:12.13 with Iliasa Redda in 5th place, Maria Birchall 10th, Molly Joyce 13th, and Grace Abbott 15th completed the field.

Boys 100m backstroke

Oliver Dodsworth back again with another gold with Harry Trueman in the silver medal position in times of 1:38.13 and 1:41.20 respectively. Ten-year group saw another Sunderland one two with Luke McGee win gold from Alfie McGuire in silver in times of 1:20.25 and 1:24.55 in the 11-age group Fran Proctor was 4th place well done lads.

Girls 50m breaststroke

10 year group Anna Whelan was 9th in 53.86, 11 years girls Jess Ord 7th and Sophie Graham 8th place. 13/14 age saw Grace Abbott in 9th place and Maria Birchall 11th.

Boys 50m breaststroke

Its turning into a magnificent show from Olly Dodsworth with gold no 5 in the 50 breast in a time of 50.58 well done Olly. Harry Trueman won bronze in 53.55 seconds.

The 11-year group saw Alfie McGuire win silver in 45.18 with Luke McGee coming in 4th place. The 11 years group Kenneth Juan won silver in 45.68 with Fran Proctor coming in 6th place. Josh Convery also brought home a silver medal in the 12 year age group in 43.94 well done to all the boys.

Girls 200m backstroke

10-year-old Riona Sorianosis won the gold medal in 2.55 86, Helena Wyness came in 9th place. 11-year age group Ayumi Faulds won silver in 2:47.24, Layla Trueman was 8th with 10, 11 and 12th place taken by Elyssa Palmer, Yuki Faulds and Tilly Abbott.  Caitlin Cambrook won gold in 2:37.47 in the 13/14 girls with Iliasa Redda in 5th place.

Girls 400m freestyle

10-year-old Helena Wyness just missed out on a medal with a great swim of 5:57.30 to come in 4th place. 11-year-old Ayumi Faulds romped to gold in 5:11.96 Layla Trueman won the bronze in 5.21.65 Elyssa Palmer was 6th place with Yuki Faulds 8th and Tilly Abbott 10th place.

Boys 100m freestyle 

9 year olds Jacob Barnett in 1.28.52 won silver with our old friend Olly Dodsworth taking bronze in 1.30.05 Harry Trueman was 4th place. The older 10-year group Luke McGee won gold and Alfie McGuire bronze in times of 1:11.08 and 1:16.06, 11-year-old Kenneth Juan was 5th and Fran Proctor 11th place, Josh Convery came in 10th place for the older 12-year group. Well done gents.

Girls 100 m freestyle

Eve Foster in the 9-year-old age group won silver in a time of 1:23.53 with Clara Birchall in 9th place, the 10 year girls Riona Sorianosis was 5th with Helena Wyness 14th and Anna Whelan 15th place. 11 year olds Ayumi Faulds powered in to win the gold in 1:08.13 with Layla Trueman in 6th and Millie Foster in 10th place. Elyssa Palmer, Yuki Faulds, Jess Ord, Sophie Graham and Tilly Abbott were all in the top 20. Caitlin Cambrook again showed strength and power to win gold in the 13/14 group in 1:02.31, Iliasa Redda was 11th with Grace Abbott and Molly Joyce just outside the top 20. Well done ladies.

Boys 50m butterfly

Jacob Barnett won silver in the youngest group of 9 years in a time of 48.33. Luke McGee in the 10 year olds won gold in 38.03, 11-year-old Kenneth Juan was 2nd for the silver in 36.93. well done guys.

Girls 50m butterfly

9-year-old Eve Foster added to her collection another silver in 45.95 and in the older group, her older sister Millie was 9th holding off Sophie Graham in 10th and Jess Ord 14th place Caitlin Cambrook won silver in the older girls group in a time of 31.53 while Iliasa Redda, Maria Birchall, Grace Abbott, and Molly Joyce all finished in the top 20.

Boys 200m breaststroke

9-year-old Olly Dodsworth kept up an amazing gala for him with another silver in 3.26.31. Alfie McGuire in the 10 years group won bronze in 3.26.76 Fran Proctor was 5th in the 11 year boys with Josh Convery coming in 4th for the 12 year age group.

The Saturday and Sunday events all finished in exciting relay races which I have grouped together here.

Boys 9/12 200m freestyle relay

Sunderland put out a team of Luke McGee, Alfie McGuire (10) Kenneth Juan (11) and Josh Convery (12) the guys swam in to win bronze medal in an exciting race.

Girls 9/12 200m medley relay

The Sunderland team for this event was Riona Sorianosis (10) and Layla Trueman,Millie Foster and Ayumi Faulds all 11, the girls swam in 6th place which was brilliant as the top 5 had all older girls swimming in their groups. The over 13 group the Sunderland team was all 13, Molly Joyce, Iliasa Redda, Grace Abbott and Caitlin Cambrook. The girls swam in at 4th place. Well done to all.

Girls 9/12 200m freestyle relay.

The Sunderland team was Millie Foster, Layla Trueman, Tilly Abbott, and Ayumi Faulds, the girls were a credible 4th and did brilliantly, Ayumi on the last leg swam 30.89 which was a p.b for her well done girls. In the 13-year age group, the team was Maria Birchall, Grace Abbott, Molly Joyce, and Caitlin Cambrook. The girls swam in 5th place in another exciting race. Well done to all the ladies.

Boys 9/12 200m medley relay

The Sunderland team was Kenneth Juan, Luke McGee, Alfie McGuire, and Josh Convery, the lads won bronze in a time of 2:31.01. great swimming.

This concluded the gala, another good one from Sunderland well attended from the swimmers and great support from the families. Well done to all.
