Important Information

Dear Members

Following open recruitment for the vacancy for the Chair position, we are delighted to announce that with immediate effect from 2 September 2019, Linda Reiling will become the new Chair of the City of Sunderland ASC.

Linda is the Senior Commissioning Manager for Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Autism and the Transforming Care Lead for Children and Adults at NHS  Sunderland Clinical Commissioning Group.  She has worked in the NHS for over 15 years in a number of different roles and areas across health.

Linda is a Mam to a swimmer in this club and also supports the club at galas as a qualified J2 official.

Speaking on her appointment, Linda said:

“I am honoured to accept the post as Chair of the City of Sunderland ASC.  I am truly passionate about inclusivity and fairness for all and continuously strive towards making a difference in everything I do.

I am really keen to talk to parents, swimmers and coaches about ideas and suggestions you may have to help us make improvements to an already great club.  I am here to use the skill set I have to develop a strategy for the future of this club.

I want this club to be led by the swimmers, parents and coaches collectively, as without you all this club wouldn’t exist. I am keen to encourage parents to join in wherever possible to support us at home galas whether that’s as a helper, planner or even timekeeper. We have access to a great training programme if any parent is interested in becoming a qualified J1, J2 or more!

We have a challenging time ahead of us with the plans to fix the roof at the Aquatics Centre, however I am confident that collectively we will get through this and come back bigger and stronger than ever!!

I am very excited to take on this role as Chair of Sunderland Swimming Club and I hope you all welcome me into this role. I do plan to be at the club every week and I would love for parents to come and meet with me for a chat. I will ensure to email out to everyone confirmation of the days and times I’ll be around.”

Linda can be contacted at chair@cityofsunderlandasc.co.uk.  Linda will be at the pool this evening (2 September), while Youth Potential are training, and Wednesday and Friday evening this week (4 and 6 September 2019)

We have a number of individuals who do an outstanding job for the club, helping to move key parts of the business forwards.  Their time, expertise and commitment is invaluable and is truly appreciated by the Board.

We will be looking to expand the composition on the Board, and Linda will lead a skills analysis as to which skills are required by the Board moving forwards.  Once that is finalised, we will be going out to the membership for expressions of interest for future Board positions.

We have also highlighted a number of key volunteer roles which we really do need to fill if we are able to move the club forward.  Once Linda has reviewed this, we will be going out to the membership to hopefully secure people into these roles / positions as soon as possible.

Here’s hoping for a successful new season.

Thanks and best wishes

Ian and David
