Matthew Wylie – Young Male Achiever 2012.

City of Sunderland Performance Squad member, Matthew Wylie has scooped the ‘Young Male Achiever’ at the 2012 North East Disability Sports Awards. The fifteen year old Biddick Sports College student was nominated for the award by the City of Sunderland ASC after a year of phenomenal achievements in the water, in which he broke British, European and World Record times in the S9 Disability Classification. Matthew’s record breaking feats saw him smash the British 400m Individual Medley, 200m Butterfly, 800m and 1500m Freestyle record times, as well as the European and World 1500m Short Course record times. A delighted Matthew received the award from Ian Payne of Tyne Tees Televisions North East Tonight. Matthew will shortly be taking part in the British Gas Championships, where he has qualified for five events. This will determine the qualifiers for the London 2012 Paralympics. Club Performance Coach Danny Thompson said,

‘This is a well deserved award for Matthew. He has worked extremely hard over the past year and it is great to see him recognised in this way.’
