Wear Valley ASC May level 3 Meet – Report

Winning a medal in all of her events , Amy Dixon, 14, finished the weekend with eight medals: four golds, three silvers and a bronze medal.  Her winning swims came in the 200m freestyle, 200m I/M, 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly events.  In the 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke, Amy finished second and was third in the 100m backstroke.  Amy also improved her times in all but one of her events, capping a successful weekend of competition at the Woodhouse Close Leisure Complex, Bishop Auckland.

Lara Greggs, 12 and J.J. Robins, 13, both won a gold, four silvers and a bronze medal and both also secured two 4th place finishes!  Lara won her gold medal in the 100 I/M with a new PB and finished second in the 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 200m backstroke and was third in the 100m backstroke.   J.J. won his gold medal in the 200m backstroke, achieving a new PB.  He won silver medals in the 200m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 200 I/M and was third in the 200m breaststroke.  The similarities continued with each setting 3 PBs!

Twelve year old Vanessa Rubio also had a very successful weekend, winning five bronze medals and setting seven PBs.  Her medals were won in the 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 100m I/M, 200m I/M and 200m freestyle events.

The remaining medallists were Caitlin Cambrook, 11, Fran Proctor, 10, and Ayumi Faulds, 9.  Caitlin won a hat trick of silver medals and improved her times in seven events.  Her medals came in the 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke events.  Fran finished 3rd in the 200m backstroke in a new fastest time while Ayumi was third in the 100m freestyle and achieved six PBs over the weekend.

Maria Birchall, 13, was unlucky not to come away with a medal as she finished 4th in the 100m backstroke, 5th in the 50m butterfly, 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly, 200m I/M, 200m breaststroke and 200m backstroke and was 6th in the 200m freestyle.  She achieved PBs in five events.  Grace Abbott, 11, also picked up a 4th place, in the 200m breaststroke and improved her times in five events.

Elyssa Palmer, 10, Arran Robinson, 9, Yuki Faulds, 9 and Benjamin Milford, 12, all picked up 5th and 6th places.  Elyssa was 5th in the 100m freestyle and set new PBs in each of her events.  Arran finished 5th in the 100m backstroke and was 6th in the 200m I/M and 200m breaststroke.  Yuki finished 6th in the 50m butterfly and 200m I/M and achieved six PBs while Benjamin was 6th in the 200m backstroke and set PBs in all but one of his swims.  Madeline Smith, 11, and Alicia Barnes, 12, both achieved 6th place finishes in the 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke respectively and both set new PBs in all their swims.
